Yes, the default is Gnome, tho Beto wouldn't know that. And we checked out the mixer application. In the mixer application preferences, many items are not even checked. I systematically turned on each option to try it, and then restored its uncheckmarked status. Of the ones that were already showing up, none of them were muted, and volume controls did not correct the problem. Internet sound (via Firefox) were not working no matter what, even though sound from audio CD and system sounds were working. One thing I thought was strange was that the CD control had no effect upon the sound from the CD. PCM did. And Master did (of course). But I might suggest to Beto that he try KDE as opposed to Gnome. Beto, on the main login screen, before you type in your password, look for a link that says ??? (I *think* it's "Session"). Click on that and choose KDE. I'm almost certain that I included KDE during the installation. Start up firefox there, load up extreme funny and listen for sound. -- KPLUG-Newbie@kernel-panic.org http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-newbie
