Hi, I have just installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 AMD64 and I want to install the appropriate NVIDIA driver. The install program tells me to turn off the X server but it is not clear to me how to do this on Ubuntu. Whatever I do either returns me to the log in or shuts off the machine. Is there a straight forward way to do this?
