If you look at it now you'll see that I've created Event objects in Plone for the upcoming meetings that Neil posted to -steer. Unfortunatley the Event object only allows a simple description, suitable really only for a meeting topic title, such as Lan's "Rapid Application Development of PostgreSQL C/S applications using Tcl/Tk."
This may initially seem like a bad thing, but upon further thought I've determined that it is not. The Event object also allows a URL for further information. Plone allows members of the website to keep anything they want in their own Members directory. They flag items that they wish the public to see for publishing, and when one of the website maintainers logs in, we see a list of documents that have been submitted for publication.
Putting all these parts together, here's my perceived workflow, using May's event as an example:
1) SDCOE provides our room schedule and one of the site maintainers with access to the /events folder places generic events ASAP.
2) Lan volunteers to present for the May 12th meeting on PostgreSQL and Tcl/Tk.
3) Lan creates an account (if necessary) on the website and creates a Document in his home folder with detailed description of his presentation. He can also upload and then link File objects in that Document for others to download.
4) Site maintainer is notified by Plone that Lan has provided his event description. Maintainer publishes the document, notes the URL, and then edits the appropriate Event object and pastes in the URL.
The Event is now linked to Lan's description. Lan is free to change his description in the future (though doing so will re-submit it for site maintainer approval), or upload more related files. He no longer has to email the webmaster (or -steer or Neil) with every little change.
Lan, if you're up for it, please create an account on the new KPLUG website and we'll test this a little to see how it works.
