Neil,

I can't remember now if I spoke with you since our original phone
conversation on why UCHUG separated from SDCS and if there was any
chance our group would be inclined to rejoin. If not, I apologize for
not getting back to you on this sooner.

The opinions I received at our last board meeting and general meeting
are in line with what I told you they likely would be. The
predominant sentiment is that UCHUG should remain an independent group
and continue on the path to tax exempt status. Few members saw a
benefit to
affiliation with SDCS, though as a group we are still open to
collaboration with SDCS and its SIGs (we recently participated in a
computer clinic with the South Bay Computer Society).

Just this week we were informed by the IRS that UCHUG has been granted
501 (c) (3) tax exempt status. With that now in hand, I believe it is
even less likely that UCHUG would be interested in rejoining SDCS in
the near future.

I personally don't want to see SDCS fold, but am afraid as a group,
UCHUG has little interest in any direct involvement in the operation
of SDCS. I wish you the best of luck in keeping SDCS going.

Greg Skalka
President, UCHUG
