Has anyone given much thought to a informal audit showing the

Easy. $0.00. KPLUG didn't even have an account until recently from
which to even write a check.
Not quite true. I've maintained an account for the club foe years.
George has the statements. We could write a check, however we usually
just used our mastercard/debit card for expenses.
Perhaps it might be good to have a poll for all unnecessary
expenditures..
I disagree.
I agree with your disagreement... :)
In addition to your comments on it, who'd decide what was "unnecessary",
and wouldn't unnecessary expenditures be declined by definition of
unnecessary??? :)
Any expenditures other than necessary (like CDR and DVDR) always HAVE
been discussed here first.
First, you will have to start defining things like quorum, who is a
member, who gets to vote, amount of notice, etc. That alone is going to
take some effort. Are *you* volunteering?
Second, the KPLUG membership doesn't have to live with the consequences
of a decision like "what server to buy" or "what hosting to go with".
The leadership bears the preponderance of that burden.
Given that our current leadership has shown themselves to be
responsible, I am sure that they will listen to suggestions, objections,
etc. It wouldn't even surprise me if they did put it up for a formal vote.
Personally, though, I want final decision for something like a server or
hosting to rest with them. Especially since they are the ones who will
have to live most with the consequences.
I'm normally not quite this deferential, but given the number of Cheap
Bastards(tm) in the group, it will tend toward a cheap monetary solution
even if it costs the primary maintainers more time.
That's unfair. I've been on the receiving end of that kind of thing and
don't want to see it inflicted on others.
Besides, have a little faith in our leaders. The Cheap Bastard(tm)
streak is strong with some of them, too.
