It's here! The final piece! 4GB of hot, hot Kingston RAM. I
apologize for the delay, there was a significant back order on the
Intel-specific part from Kingston. Kingston offers the same RAM as a
generic part, but the special "I" series is the one that's on Intel's
HCL for our server, so given that the cost was the same I felt it'd
be worth the extra ~1 week wait to get the right stuff and avoid
future headache.
I plan to assemble the pieces tomorrow to ensure nothing is DOA and
give the whole shebang a good burn-in over the weekend. Then, if
there's interest, I thought it might be a neat idea to host a "Sparky
Installfest" where interested parties can come and oogle over the
beautiful new hardware that their raffle tickets bought and learn
something as we walk through the base OS installation. The goal
during the event will be to get the host OS, our foundation for
virtualization, laid down. Once that's in place, Sparky can go to
its home in the colo and all virtual machine setup can be done
remotely and as needed.
So... first question... is there interest in such an event? I can
host it at my office downtown, after hours. Looking at the calendar,
Thursday, May 3rd is my suggestion for a date.
Thoughts please...
