It sounds like my gtkosc-hack was
pretty lame, compared with:

In current hacking -- I've been 
playing around with Artificial
Stupidity.  It turns out one can
hill-climb without being very
sophisticated about gradients,
by following the two rules:
        1. if it ain't broke, don't fix it
        2. if it don't work, try something new

(much like the old RC cars that
could only "go forward" or "spin
around" -- or like the decisions
made in organizations which are
peter principle poster children)
