Well, now I have enough money in the bank to pay my bills through the end of the month, which is good. Now I just need to start figuring out how to find enough contract work to keep that true.
San Francisco is still beautiful, but now I'm in a much poorer neighborhood, Noe Valley. The banks here have bulletproof "glass" to protect the tellers from the customers' guns; beggars inhabit every block. But it's also much more convenient to walk to things: banks, laundromats, restaurants, bookstores are all closer than they were at my old house. Soon perhaps I will use laundry services again. My laptop's case is broken, although I still use it every day. I'm planning to get it fixed soon. Interesting stuff is going on at KnowNow. It seems that a lot of the people in management who'd been causing a lot of the trouble there have left, either of their own accord or because they were encouraged to leave. It would be nice to have a chance to do some more work for the old beast; their ideas, long ahead of their time, are finally starting to catch on --- both inside and outside the company!
