I tried to send this to the Corvair list but I must have failed to
make the transition to the new list. I will have to sort that out
tomorrow. Until then, I am sending the body of my email to this list.
Its KR related but Corviar specific.

I have gotten a few more flights in on the Corvair powered KR this
week. For the past couple of weeks we have been working to get the oil
temps down. Originally, there was a large plate type cooler installed
on the top of the engine with no ducting to or from it. It basically
sat in stagnant air. We built a baffle below it and routed it's outlet
to the low pressure side of the cowl. That helped but its still
running 220f in cruise. While I am not startled by that temp, It does
make it difficult to control the oil pressure in various modes of
flight.

During today's flight with an OAT of 75f, I saw 29psi of oil pressure
while the engine was turning 2950rpms and the temp was at 218f. While
that pressure is adequate it will be lower on hotter days.

I have a few questions.

What is the max acceptable oil pressure for a Corvair engine?
What is considered the max continuous oil temp (we are using the
recommend Rotella oil)?

I have built an oil pressure adjuster that allows me to vary the
pressure on the control spring. It works as intended, but during
takeoff with an oil temp around 150f, the pressure is about 55psi.
After it heats up it drops to what I have mentioned above. In the VW
world, 55psi is not an issue, but I need some input concerning the
Covair engine.

After getting the mixture distribution sorted out, this is the last
lingering issue I am dealing with. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any help!
