Looks pretty clean Mark - nice.

Concur on the maintenance access for the back of the panel. I did it from day 1
and never regretted it. Not sure I would have done some mandatory repairs
without it. For instance one or two minor fuel leaks on the header tank, and
installation of new radios and instruments. Upgrades are always fun!.

Subject: KR> panel installation milestone

No KRnet traffic all day? That's pretty rare!

I reached a bit of a milestone today...I got the instrument panel installed in
N891JF a couple of days ago and now I'm seeing signs of life. So far,
everything checks out fine. I'm slowly connecting various sensors, and things
like the fuel pumps, primer solenoid, flap motor and limit switches, etc, but
there are plenty more to work. See enclosed photo, and note the four loops of
cables on the left side under the panel. I already ran two similar cables (a
shielded 4- conductor and a shielded 7-conductor) up to the firewall.

One piece of advice that I can offer for today is to make your front deck
removable, or provide access to the back of your panel in some way other than
having to stand on your head. That sounds easy enough, but you really don't
have much of a slot to fit into, and certainly no room for more than one hand
or shoulder at a time. The back side of the firewall is all but unreachable.
I
did my best to complete all connections to the back of the panel before I
installed it (hence the loops of cables), but the few that I had to connect
after installation have been very frustrating, and potentially hazardous to my
health, considering possible strained muscles.

See http://www.n56ml.com/kmlfd.html for one way to make your front deck
removable, with minimal weight gain. I eventually connected the canopy to the
front deck, and am able to remove both front deck and canopy as a unit in under
three minutes. That makes a big difference in accessibility, maintainability,
and safety, as you your are able to make changes easily and reliably.

My new goal is to fly it by March 1st, and I think I can make that one.
