What?? KR's need all the drag they can get when on final and still going
fast. Jim Morehead put a huge bellyboard on his with a really solid
extension/retraction mechanism. It was such a pleasure to put that barn
door out on final and actually slow down. My little belly flap that only
goes down about 35? doesn't do much but I always use it anyway. Unlike
Jim's, my extension/retraction mechanism can't handle extension at higher
speeds (above 100 mph in my case, roughly). Flaps would seem to be a
better choice since you get a slower stall speed with them, but a big
barn door belly flap might be better than anything for slowing down on
final.

Sparky has flaps on his (Bob Passmore's) KR-2 and he says they don't do
much. He has the usual stub wing flaps. If flaps could be extended
across the bottom of the fuselage as in a C-310 or DC-3 then that would
be the best of both worlds - effective drag plus slower stall speed.
