Larry here is a picture of my spar caps and the
2 foot pieces scarfied on.

1 foot for the 2s 1 foot extended

With the scarfs running in opposite directions and
the spruce ply web covering both sides I think
this will be plenty strong. The original use foam
and a couple of layer of glass.

As for the center section spars, along with the
AS5048 airfoil being much thicker when I made
up my spar caps the wood I used was 1/4
thicker than called for in the plans (2" top and bottom)
mine is 2.25" instead of sawing it off I incorporated
into the spar for strength (and a little extra weight)
and then shortened the vertical pieces to maintain the
8.19" over all spar height.

I think it would hold up a tank or at least a Microbus!
