Bill,

Try this as well. The attached KR newsletter Sep 1978, has comments from an
Oshkosh Forum where Ken Rand stated 3/32s is actually better.

Thanks Rob-

that is the info that I needed, that it isn't in the plans.

I will see if I can convince him that the 3/32 is OK.

Thanks

Bill

If you don't have the ability to get another AI, then it sounds like you
will need to change them. It is not in the plans. I am an engineer, I looked up
the allowable stress in the AC43.13-1B, and the cables are plenty strong
enough. A 3/32" cable is rated for 1000 lbs force per table 7-3. The plane
weighs 600 pounds. The control cables move aerelons, elevator, and rudder - no
way you can put 1000 lb force on these. You might tell him this and also that
your airplane is "experimental" not certified. But it his guy is the only
option you have?

Good luck.

Rob

I realize that 3/32 is plenty for the KR (our Rans has 3/32) but my AI isn't
convinced- unless the plans call for something other than 1/8 then 1/8 should
be used. I am looking for "something" to say that the plans call for 3/32

I used 3/32. It is plenty enough strong for the KR and its controls
requirements.

Nowhere in the plans nor on the search can I find any reference
to what size
cable is used in the KR airplanes.
Normally 1/8" cable is used in primary
flight control systems but on both KR's that I have been familiar with there is
3/32" cable and 3/32 is WAY easier to use.
Is there anything written that
comments on the size needed?
Thanks
