The nose of the pants was removed and small round lights were

The biggest drawback I see with that design is the amount of vibration
the lamps are going to see and if that shortens the bulb life to any
degree.  I seem to recall that some Cessnas or Pipers that had
cowl mounted landing lights suffered bulb life problems.  Then again
, at my age, this may all be a figment of my imagination.  :-)
