Yes, even though the unit has a self contained two hour battery backup, with notification of electrical failure, I would still assign it a separate electrical system. This is still something that is afforable if you take into consideration the items it replaces. I'm ordering one, even though I won't be flying for awhile, just to take advantage of the price. Light weight, glass, solid state with no moving parts.....cat's meow in my book.
