Tim,
You will need a regulator for your venturi if you use the largest one that AS&S 
sells because it is capable of producing too much vacuum. The smaller ones are 
sufficient for about 4 inches of mercury, if memory serves. You want to install 
a suction gauge if using the large one to allow ease of calibrating the 
regulator to an acceptable setting and if you are doing alot of night flying, 
especially cross country, I would want to know if my heading indicator, and 
attitude indicator were getting sufficient vacuum in order to be able to trust 
them. I have been in IMC twice now with partial panel situations caused by 
either low vacuum, or gauge malfunction. My opinion is you can't have too much 
information in flight. Suction gauge is small cheap insurance to the health of 
the vacuum system.
