Tim,

I think you are correct, it is just the foam under the glass.  When that
happens, I groan a lot, but don't do anything.  If you add a layer each time
that happens, your plane will weigh 1000# empty.

This is one of the reasons why I think finishing the inside of the Fuselage,
before the wing stubs, is a good idea.  You are always leaning or kneeling
on a spot that cracks like that.

One day someone was looking at the underside of the wing.  When he got up,
he leaned on the wing and I heard that awful sound.  It is gonna happen, you
just try to do everything you can, to avoid it and if it get's too bad, I
guess you have to re-build.
