I really like this discussion, because I converted. First, about the uuugly
baby and the uuugly nose gear, The main appeal for me was the looks of the KR
when retracted. But, after struggling through a couple of collapses and not
being able to land on really soft fields, I converted to fixed taildragger,
and the only option available was the Rand conversion which was quick and easy.

And, back then there was no tail dragger endorsement, and hull insurance for
a KR was almost non existent. I did not have any loss of air speed because my
retract was never faired. As to which is easier to fly, the tail or the
nose, I have not flown a nose wheeled KR, but, assume that once you learn to
get
off the ground, you won't know the difference. Just don't put tundra tires on
your KR.
