Colin, you are correct in your statement. Yes, an experimental aircraft
could be used as transportation of the pilot for a qualified business trip.
You, as a private pilot, could fly to airplane to a job site, see a client
or look at potential property. No, you could not use it, or a certified
aircraft, as a tool for revenue generation. Optimizing income and
generating income are two different things. There are some really gray
areas but there are also some black and white allowable uses aircraft in a
business environment.

Couple different scenerios: "I'll retain your company to go to Twin Oaks,
CO to look at some property for me". "I'll pay your expenses to fly me to
Twin Oaks, CO to look at some property", "Let's go to Twin Oaks, CO and go
skiing, I'll share the airplane expenses", "Let's go to Twin Oaks, CO and go
skiing, I'll pay the airplane expenses".

In the second and fourth, you didn't receive compensation, you didn't
generate income, did you do commercial work? did you just violate any 135
regs?

Yes, Colin you can allow your experimental aircraft to be used for
transition training. The CFI can charge for his time.
