Chris, I believe you fly a KR-2S with VW engine? Does you airplane have a neutral or even slightly negative stability. Did you do the Stability test as described in the EAA Sport aviation (stick force measurements?)?
I haven't gotten to the stick force measurement's yet, but there is a strong indication, that the my "stock KR-2S" is neutral stable...(maybe even negative) I will get to the stability test next, but I am afraid the result might lead to increasing the horizontal stabilizer area. On the positive side, I have managed to sort out my trim problem. single pilot with full fuel (header tank) I can trim now all the way down to 70kts, however the trim tab position is almost like the one Mark Langford posted showing Steve Aldermans KR 2 at the gathering (80° down). ( ie ideally 15-20% MAC or 8-10 inches aft of the leading at the stub wing). My KR2S empty weight CG came in at 18% . When loaded with fuel and passegers , it will move back as expected. I don't know how "stock" your KR2S is compared to mine but you are welcome to use my Excel spreadsheet to enter your exact plane variable ( moment arms and weights). The spreadsheet will calculate required % for you. I will E mail it direct to you ( and anyone who wants it). Fly safe , protect yourself ...and our privelege to fly amateur built aircraft .
