Mark- No experience here, just a couple thoughts. The 1/4" is going to be
a pretty heavy piece of metal. The .060 doesn't sound all that
unresonable. (I used that as the instrument panel.) It could have hemed
edges for some stiffness and/or some formed or applied stiffners to the
face of the brake.
