Well, I finally got the passenger window trimmed out and finished painting the cockpit. The tips about putting on a heavier coat of paint are right on. Someone suggested using a smaller tip on the paint gun. I got 3 tips with my HVLP, so I put on the smallest one and that seems to give a much more even coat and makes it easier to put on a heavier coat. I did get a little run in one spot, but that is no problem.
I found one thing that may help if, like me, you don't know when it is the right time to pull the tapes. It really depends on how heavy the paint is and if you don't have a lot of experience, it can be hard to know when the time is right. After I made the primary taping around the window, I added a thicker tape to get back away from the very thin first tape, and to that, I taped on the covering. I found that by pulling off the first tape, I could get an idea if it was time. So, in the future, I will put a bit of tape at intervals and close enough to the edge that I will get the same coat of paint on the tape as on the plane, so I can test how they pull off, before I have to do the real thing. Pics to follow after the whole plane is painted and trimmed out.
