Hello Netter's
Rich Seifert, Rich Shirley, and I had a great day of flying. Clear blue
skies, cool temp, (at least in the morning), and smooth air. We did a mini
cross country to work on our formation flying for the trip back to the
Gathering. We flew by Revemaster and on up to Apple Valley for breakfast.
Good food, slooooowwwwwww service. Overall, a definite 10 for flying days. I
think the Richards and I are going to plan one or two overnight trips before
the Big One just for practice.
I have had 2 oil leaks that have plagued me for months. It appears I may
have to pull my heads befire the trip back. The other is at the oil pump
cover. I am using the Revmaster style with the vertical oil filter in front
of #1 cylinder. Has anyone had any problems with the assembly leaking, ALOT,
at the opposite end of the filter where the large nut is? I think is is to
adjust the flow??? Heck, I don't know. Anyway, any assistance would be
appreciated.
I added a few knots of airspeed by the recent addition of wheel pants and
gear leg fairings. I still need to finish the inside fairing over the gear
leg and brake assembly. I should have them finished this next week. I had
the gear leg fairings completed before I went to the Golden West EAA Fly-in
in Marysville, Calif. It is about a 400 mile trip. The first time I went up
I needed to stop for fuel. With the new wing tank I made it non-stop in
under 3 hours.
Golden West was a pretty nice event. It is really tuning into a nice show
for the west coast. I was the only KR present but seemed to be well
received. A number of people who came by said they either owned plans but
had never seen one, had never seen one but now wanted to build it, or were
currently building but now were more motivated after seeing a flying one. In
fact, the #2 guy running the Golden West show, I wish I could remember his
name, said he also was currently building one up near Sacramento.
Bottom line is, we need to get these things out to the local events. I was
suprised by how many people have never seen a KR even though they have been
around aviation all thier lives. We have a great little airplane with alot
of bang for the buck. I looked at a few "Plans Built" (NOT!) planes at the
show who had almost three times as much money in their planes....and mine is
still faster :)~
See ya all in September!
