I'm sure you'll get lots of replies on this, but it's best (my opinion) to start out with only what you'll be using in the first 6 months or so... your wood and glue. I'm almost certain the majority of replies will recommend that you get your spruce from Wicks, although I've had good service from Aircraft Spruce and others as well.
