If you want something a bit different go through some old aviation 
history books and see if the N #'s of any of the famous airplanes
are available.

I tried to get the "Spirit of St.Louis" N number (X-211) but the EAA 
has it on the replica "Spirit of St.Louis"  (211) so I ended up getting
211 with my initials ( 211LF).

When I was checking there were several numbers from famous
aircraft available.  I thought of getting just the number 1 but the
FAA has blocked (reserved) the first 100 or so numbers.  Bummer!
