Dan, I guess the short answer is personal preference. My "mission statement" for my KR is to build it as stock and light as possible. Besides the engine selection, I am only planning three structural mods: 1) Aerodynamic balances, 2) a recessed speed brake, & 3) conversion to the AS5046 airfoil for the wings. I figure the less mods means the less time building. With that said, the 3 spars for the HS came with the plane cut and ready. My understanding is most of the drag in the stock KR tail comes from the HS angle of incidence rather than the airfoil, so I decided to keep the HS stock and just add the balances. I'm certain others will disagree and that's the beauty of this plane, build it your own way... :-) ps. I'm still looking forward to seeing your KR sometime this Fall!
