Yes, I did put balance horn on my plane - mostly to keep the lead out of the
interior of the fuselage - but also because it looks cool. I wasnt sure how
the plane would react flight wise but I have been pleased. The stability is
increadible - compared to my stock KR2 - but ive done so many changes that I
cant say with any certainty how much the balances contribute. I have new
airfoils (wing and elevator) new incidences, KR2S lengths, and Corvair power.
I fly with the CG on the forward limit or slightly behind it. I have pleanty
of power so it handles and climbs well. The elevatore feel is good at slow
speeds and just slightly sensitive at higher speeds but better than my stock
KR2. In smooth air it goes where I put the nose with very little tendancy to
move away from that position. I can take off and put the nose in a Vy or
cruise climb and let go of the stick and it stays put. This may have
something
to do with the aerodynamic balances but not sure. I just know that I like
it. I use very little elevator trim throughout all speeds and weights - about
1/4" total trim travel is all I have used and that is when I am doing 175 or
so. Overall I am very pleased with the flight characteristics of N41768.
85 hours and counting....Bill
