the EAA how to manual on wood discusses
different wood used in aircraft construction
and covers and suggests that Port Orford
and white cedar, western white or Oregon
pine and Doug fir are substitudes for sitka
spruce. I remember reading somewhere that
Port Orford cedar was used in control surfaces
Mitsubishi Zero control surfaces. Good enough
for a 400 mph. airplane that they knew was
going to get shot at
