I used my battery charger as a power supply also. That shouldn't be a problem. Something sounds WAY WRONG with the pumps though. Have you tried priming the input line, with the output blocked, apply power and see if it continues to pump fluid. They may not be self-priming like the ones I have. Beyond that, I don't know.
