I have been kicking around a wild idea in the back of my head for a while. After the hurricane season we have Cessna 150s laying on their backs at a dime a dozzen. I can get one, sell the engine, and have the airframe at a pretty good price. I would like to convert one to a poor man's taildragger with a Corvair engine and a few other mods. Only problem is that it can not be passed of as 51% amateur built which puts it in the experimental exhibition category with a huge amount of restrictions on flying it. I have verified this with a DAR and with the EAA. If anyone out there has any experience on any alternative ways to register a plane like this please contact me offline at [email protected].
