I agree with Ed.  Here in Southern Illinois we
sometimes go from winter, into monsoon (and flooding),
directly into summer. I have to be on the tractor any
time it isnt raining in the spring (and sometimes when
it is :-( ) Picking apples will wait a couple of days
in the fall, but I can't take off even when sick or
injured in the spring.

Something else to consider about spring here. We have
daffodils for a month before Wisconsin can even see
the ground through the snow.

My vote is also for late Sept or early October.  I
can't bring apple cider to the gathering if we have it
before we start pressing in mid September. LOL
