In all of the e-mails that have passed through, I have found most interst in
the rebuild and that of the new airfoils.
I purchased a hull and 80% finished DD wings. The fuse was on its gear had
a turtle deck and tail was basically finished. I didnt like the look of the
turtle deck, cut it off.... good thing it weighted almost 35 lbs. The tail
has a little left built in.
The plane is a kr2 and had a 14in bay placed aft of the cockpit. The plane
is a tri gear.
I am sending this out to get an opinion from the group.
Whie I think that there is alot of movement in the automotive /aircraft
conversions.... I still do not trust an automotive engine in my plane... but
because of the tail, I can not really run an aircraft O200.
My thoughts are this.
Build a new fuse 44 inches wide, KR2SS, w/ o200 or like engine. I would be
able to strip all the hardware off the existing plane... sell the boat and
DD wings... the new plane would have the better/new airfoil. I know and
realize that the plane is strong enough if built to stock.. but I believe
that if I use carbon throughout I would be able to save some weight or keep
the same same weight for a bit more strength. beef up the front end to carry
abit more weight.
I dont believe that it would not take me all that long to buld a new fuse
and spars... if I got to it... a few months to have it back to the state
that its at now.
The wings are another story.
If I keep my current plane.. I am going to turn it into a single seater...
its just not big enough for my big butt and my kid and run it with a VW
engine.
Once again, thanks agin for the direction and information.
