You mentioned the only advantage. I too widened my fuselage sides and when
pulling the boat front together to install the firewall, I became very
concerned about the bending and snapping the longerons or plywood sides.
Therefore, I wound up with a firewall 2 inches wider than stock. Others have
widened and not widened the firewall with no problems. I think the only
disadvantage is that nothing fits like stock cowls, etc.... I had to custom
make a cowl to fit my firewall. Also, I am sure I am losing some speed due
to the extra drag from the wider front on the plane.

Im building a KR2S and will be widening the cabin 4 to 6 inches and will be
using a Corvair for power. These seem to fit per plans, but im thinking that
it would be easyier to bend the sides to make the boat.  I would apriciate
