There was a guy flying locally that did not have an elt. He was in a turbine helo. He went up north on a cold Michigan day and crashed in the woods 10 miles from town. He survived the crash but had two broken legs and no operating radio or phone. He crawled away from the downed craft, but had to crawled back. He died of exposure within 24 hours of his crash.
