NetHeads, I flew up to see Troy Petteway yesterday. I did a high speed "missed approach" for them, and the Corvair's sound won rave reviews. He was messing around with his engine, so I got to check out his installation...pretty slick 0-200! I took some photos that I'll post one of these days. Then we flew around a little, and I got to practice formation flying. It was pretty easy for me, as I was the guy out front trying to fly straight, but I was also taking pictures, so that complicated things. I got some pretty good shots, one of which is at the top of http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/troy/ . Troy commented that my elevator was in perfect line with my horizontal stabilizer during level flight, which is nice.
His plane is really fast. He was literally flying circles around me while I was at full throttle, so I now how some more incentive to do the spinner and wheel pants thing, as well as finish up the new 3100cc engine. Since I was at full throttle anyway, I flew all the way home that way at 1500'. What a blast! I flew over a friend's house and the GPS said I was 7.5 minutes from home. That night we drove back there, and it took almost an hour! I even got into a little light rain right before I landed, and it occured to me as I was rolling it in the hangar that it'd been "rode hard and put up wet"...
