Conventional wisdom is that on the Corvair you DON'T want to remove the head
studs at all, unless absolutely necessary. This is because supposedly the
threads were formed in part by the special stud ends during the
manufacturing process, and once removed, that connection will be
compromised. I did exactly what you did on my first engine, and in the eyes
of many, trashed my case on the spot. I still have not used that case, but
folks are now using some of the incredible new Loctite products (620, I'm
thinking, but that's off the top of my head) to stick one or two "loose"
studs back in, so I guess it's not a stretch to think you could do that with
all of them.

There's an entire email list devoted to the CorvAircraft engine, run by the
same guy that runs this one (me). Just send a message to
corvaircraft-j...@mylist.net to sign up. If that doesn't work (although I
don't know why it wouldn't, but sometimes it doesn't) email me direct.
You'll find a lot more expertise on the subject there than you will on
KRnet. Welcome aboard on both counts, however. For more info on the
Corvair, visit http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/corvair/ , and for the
rebuild in particular,
http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/corvair/trial_assy.html , among others...
