Add another KR2S to the flying fleet. KR2S N1852Z conducted its 1st Flight
this morning 2 September 2006 at approx 7:30 am at Lee's Summit MO Airport.
I had a full ground crew including my two brothers and an EAA Chapter 91
chase plane. It was a 40 minute test flight with only one issue. I had to
hold some right aileron in order to keep the airplane level, so I will be
adding a trim tab before I fly her again. The engine (Revmaster 2100) had
no issues, CHT 350, EGT 1250, Oil Press 60, Oil temp 160. I was able to get
3300 rpm on takeoff from my Ed Sterba 54 x 50 prop so I will be watching the
rpms for overspeed during further testing. There was no wind and the clouds
were supposed to be at 7000 feet according to the airport weather station.
The folks on the ground said she climbed extremely well on takeoff, hard for
me to tell as I was focused on my airspeed and altitude - not the rate of
climb. I climbed and circled the airport up to 4000 feet and found the
clouds. At 4000 (3000 AGL) I wiggled the tail, wings, and nose to feel her
out. I had planned to do a pre-stall series but did not since the clouds
were lower than expected. I did see 120 mph on the airspeed at one point
but I was deliberately trying to keep the airspeed below that number on the
1st flight. Sad to say I had the GPS running and never crossed checked it
with the airspeed to see how close they matched. So after circling for a
short while, I decided to go ahead and get her back on the ground. My 1st
approach to landing was a little to fast due to the decent so I made a
missed approach. I nailed a great landing on the second try. It was actually
probably the best landing I've made in a KR. I need to add my special thanks
and credit to Terry Chezik for that landing, I've spent several hours with
Terry in his KR in the past couple of months preparing me for the 1st
flight, and I'm sure it was a success because of his patience teaching me
how to fly these machines.

I'll be updating my web site with new photos and video at www.robert7721.com

To Dan Heath, just watched your video, to be honest my take off wasn't any
better than yours due to the aileron issue but I corrected it pretty fast.
I think I did my landing better than yours, but I am guilty of having the
training wheel up front.

Don't know yet if my plane will make it to the gathering, I'm sure I'll be
there, but don't know if I'll have the 40 hours completed by that date -
we'll see.

Thanks,

Rob Schmitt
