I will echo this with this summation on this topic: with all the good engine
choices out there today that have great hp to weight ratios, and are
affordable to builders based on your budget, I see no good reason to "hop
up" or hotrod any engine and give up any durability or safety of operation.
For every success story, there is many more of hours and hours wasted, only
to choose a different engine package that offered the performance from the
beginning with much better reliability. Take for instance ALL the headaches
Orma Robbins has had trying to get his turbo right on his VW engine, where
as the guys running Corvairs delivering virtually the same hp and same/more
torque with increased reliability and simplicity of installation, and
operation. If certified is better for you, C-85's and O-200's have been used
with great success. Then there is all kinds of planes flying 2180 VW's,
Geo/Suzuki, even Subaru engines.

There is one reason the venerable carb and gravity feed fuel system has
survived all these years: it is extremely reliable and very simple to
maintain. All the other complexity adds to the build time and lowers the
safety of operation due to increased work load and increased number of
systems to fail.  If you want to fly soon, keep it simple, reliable, and
easy to maintain, and fly ALOT sooner. Just ask the builders who have made
changes....
