You won't need to worry about ground transportation. Chris said he hopes to have 3 to 5 courtesy cars available, plenty of drive-ins will give you a ride, and the Holiday Inn has a van if you care to wait for it. Just show up and you will be taken care of. I took off this morning intending to make a 150 mile flight to a major air show. When I called approach control they said the airspace was closed. I knew they were one hour ahead of me on the clock (time zone) but I'm still thinking they closed earlier than announced. I then back tracked to a small airport to make a phone call to a new owner of a Zenith 601 with a Sube engine that he wants me to ferry home for him this weekend. I was hoping to catch him before he passed Mt.Vernon on his way to the aircraft location. I would leave my KR at Mt.Vernon, ride with him and return in the 601. We were planning to do it tomorrow. Turned out I couldn't reach him. My instant plan B was to fly the 70 miles to the 601 location and get a quick check out to cut down on the delays tomorrow as weather may be a factor. As I was on climb out I smelled electrical smoke, NOT GOOD !! A quick glance at the battery meter said I had 13.5 volts on the main buss. No problem. I was about to kill the main buss and bring the backup battery on line for the fuel pumps when my glance noticed smoke rolling from the bottom of my radio. I immediately shut off the power to the radio / GPS. The GPS was still operating so I concluded I didn't have an over-voltage. I did a 180 and headed for home. I happen to have the phone number for the local tower in my cell so 15 miles out I called for clearance to land. All went well and now I'm left with ordering a new radio before the Gathering. Two hours in the air and all I accomplished was to smoke the radio. D#M* !!! No YEEEEE HAAAAAA's today............ Larry Flesner
