Netters, I have been monitoring the chatter for some time and I have gotten a lot of great ideas from netters. Now I have a question that I think some of you may be able to help me with. I am not a newbie to the KR. I have #5671, book 56 KR2 plans that I bought in 1980 or 81, I've been building/modifying off and on ever since. The fuselage had been widened and lengthened before the KR2S was introduced. The aft spar has been rebuilt and relocated to accommodate the AS5046 and seat belt hard points. I have recently bought N85LL which is very close to flying. I think I can have it in the air by next summer. N85LL is stock KR with premolded cowl, forward deck, canopy, turtle deck and tips. The wings are stock RAF48 with wing tanks, retractable gear, a VFR panel and a HAPI 1835 complete fire wall forward that has been run for 2 hours. I have made/am making a list of things that need to be fixed and things I would like to change. The things I would like to change aren't going to get done until after it is flying, if ever. Now for the help! The flaps are per plans (mostly). for the torque tube the original builder used a galvanized sheet metal tube deformed at the middle to clear the elevator walking beam. This must be replaced!! I am a bit anal about weight and I don't want to oversize the tube (or worse, undersize). I am wanting to know what the range of force some of you see on the flap handle, how long is the handle moment arm. Do any of you know the moment of your flap about the hinge point? If any of you can help with this information please respond to me directly. I don't think this will be an especially exiting topic for most on the net.
Thanks, Pete Gauthier Woodburn, OR PS. I almost forgot, I will be removing the retract and installing my KR fixed gear (that I don't care for either). If anyone can use the parts or knows someone who can, get in touch with me.
