I don't seem to recall saying weight "is not a factor in cruise" but something to the effect that extra weight will have the least effect on cruise speed verses takeoff and climb. I tried to search the archives to find the exact statement without success. I once read (I don't remember where) that each additional 100 pounds will cost you 3 mph of cruise speed. I'm sure that is a very generalized statement also and different for each airplane. I can tell the difference in performance of takeoff and climb in my KR from full to nearly empty tanks (25 gal) but notice little if any difference in cruise. If I add a 180 lb passenger it really feels like a slug in takeoff and climb but again, cruise sees little effect. I generally agree with the statements you make on the low end, i.e. landing mode, and your post in general. I'll throw out another generalized statement. More Horsepower will have it's greatest effect on takeoff and climb and the least effect on cruise. Tying the two together, if you want a GOOD PERFORMING KR with MODERATE horsepower, keep it light.
