Dene, Check the photo http://mysite.verizon.net/flesner/22.jpg That should answer your question. My tanks start at the back side of the forward spar and extend 10"'s to the rear. No gap between the forward spar and the tank. If you want the keep the tanks even closer to the C.G. , you could consider placing an aluminum tube in the lead edge or build a lead edge tank and plumb it to the tank on the back side of the spar.
