Actually, many of the modifications have gone on to make the KR a better, more reliable, and more safe airplane. I implemented some new ideas in this KR, and have had no problems with the KR. I have had problems with the engine, which was supposed to be the only really tried and proven part of this airplane and it is the ONLY thing that I have had a problem with on this airplane. Larry Fleshner made mods to his and has had no problems with his KR, and used an aircraft engine, and has had no problems with that one either.
Once you get over the gear problems, the main issue is the engine. And I have yet to see a really reliable engine, that is also affordable, like in the VW/Corvair range. Give me an O-200 or a Jabiru, and I'll bet that I would have not had the first problem. However, the ones who change the least, seem to get them completed much more quickly.
