I have a belt drive on a Subaru. They are not that smooth at idle. The belt has to have play so when the gears worms up it will not brake the belt. my belt is a 4" belt cut in half.If you try to use the full 4" it will trap air at the top of the gear and stretch. I always worry about the belt braking.
