You must use the factory extensions as dissimler metals at the connections will cause errent readings.. The very end of the wires that go under the spark plug is called a thermocouple. The thermocouple is made of two dissimler metals (iron and constantan) and when they are heated it causes a very small current to flow (1 to 3 milliamps). If you would plug in and extensions that were of different metal than the wires that you have then you might cause more or less current to flow giving you bad readings. ----- Original Message ----- From: <kr2coo...@earthlink.net> To: "Corvair engines for homebuilt aircraft" <corvaircr...@mylist.net>; "KR builders and pilots" <kr...@mylist.net> Sent: Monday, May 14, 2007 10:47 AM Subject: KR> Probe wire extensions
> I'm in the process of wireing my instruments and building a wiring system for the plane. My EGT and CHT probe wires are too short and I have ordered extensions from AC Spruce which have been back ordered. My question is can I use regular aircraft wire to extend the probes or should I wait for the extensions? > > Jack Cooper > > > kr2coo...@earthlink.net > EarthLink Revolves Around You. > _______________________________________ > Search the KRnet Archives at http://www.maddyhome.com/krsrch/index.jsp > to UNsubscribe from KRnet, send a message to krnet-le...@mylist.net > Post photos, introductions, and For Sale items to http://www.kr2forum.com/phpBB2/index.php > please see other KRnet info at http://www.krnet.org/info.html
