I came up with a fairly simple solution that mounts to the standard KR rudder
peddles and requires no welding, just various aluminum angle.  The entire
assembly moves with the peddles so no funny geometry to deal with.  No
problems with 340 hours of service.  I later added a piece of 1/2" half round
wood trim to the top of each fixed surface to keep from inadvertently dragging
brakes.  I've never needed them for directional control on takeoff of landing.
