Guys
This leads to a question I have been thinking about. I rebuilt after the cam
gear failure this summer and in doing so I replaced the rings and cleaned all
the lead build up off the piston crown and the cylinder head(nearly 3/16" total
thickness). Before my ideal exhaust temp was 1330 deg and less than 30 deg
spread at 3100 rpm. I have started using Marvel mystery oil in the fuel
religiously, My exhaust temps are not happy for fuel consumption or span until
It is closer to 1400 deg now and the span is about 35 deg.. At 40 plus hours
now it should be pretty well broken inn as not everything was new.
Is it the mystery oil or the tighter engine or the lack of lead in the
combustion chamber or the good old compression ratio that is giving the
dramatic change in performance. BTW- I am not looking to change it cause the
plane has been about 5 mph faster since the rebuild.
Thanks Joe Horton

Hi Mark,

Went in and looked at your engine/plug photos. I've run auto fuel and 100LL in
my A65 and have always run Marvel in it. No build-up on plugs or pistons. I
use it in the oil and the fuel. Never miss adding and I think it really
works.. Seems to keep the build-up soft so it continues to blow out. I do run
the engine wide open throttle a lot which I think helps keep the temps high and
cuts down on the junk accumulating. Just my .02..

Ron
