Dang, I wish I had pictures, but I do have witnesses. Several people were there to see my first solo flight and we had a hanger party with food and beverages afterwards to celebrate.
My first impression at take off was "WOW! that's a lot of power" as I lifted off of the runway and climbed out, more so than I remember from the first flight two years ago with Rick. That may be because both mags are working now and a few other things. No vapor lock this time around and the radio is working now, last year at the Gathering I couldn't receive, found a broken connector when I got home. I was real busy until I settled down some and I had to keep pulling back the power because it just kept wanting to go faster. At one point I noticed 140 mph at 2200 rpm. I'll get more accurate figures later. So I flew around for a while at 3500 msl staying in site of the airport just in case until it just got too hot from the firewall I guess? Will check on that later but the cabin heat was off as far I could tell, at least the label said so. No wonder Rick liked flying it when it was -4 degrees below zero outside. I also noticed that the EGT gauge wasn't working even though I put a new probe in the exhaust pipe and the VSI was way off. Level flight showed about 300-400 fpm decent. I liked my new flight stick, it performed very, very well, much better than that old joystick that was in it when I bought it. The guys on the ramp said I made a perfect landing but it was very touchy on the roll-out, same as during take-off. I might add that it took off, flew and landed very much like my KR model does in X-Plane. Maybe that was a big help after all? Well, it was a first flight and the second should be easier now that I know what to expect and I will be flying to the gathering this year Lord willing. Have a great week-end guys and girls.
