Sorry but I cannot agree with this statement. I used the Rand turtle deck,
canopy and forward deck for the 2s and before ever buying Jannette advised me
that I could widen the boat 2 inches. After building to the point of needing
the top decks I received them and found that I could have gone maybe as much as
2 inches more and still had everything fit. Granted the turtle deck was pretty
ridged but still had some movement, but that is not the only way, If the boat
is built true it is just a matter of sliding the turtle deck back until it fits
neatly in the triangle.
Steve can correct me if I am wrong but I remember him telling me that his
parts were going to be a little more plyable so that they would fit more
projects

Having said that, if you widen the fuselage you will not be able to use the
pre- made turtledeck parts from Steve Glover ( Rand top deck kit) without
some serious modification as they do not stretch at all.
If you are going to scratch build everything then I would go with at least 4
inches wider for comfort. You will be glad you did.
