Stef, First I covered the wing gap area with this clear, super thin packing
tape. Then I was able to cheat a little. I have a roll of 3 inch wide glass
tape that I cut into about 7 foot long strips. Using 3 layers per side. I was
afraid to wet them all at once on a piece of plastic in fear that when rounding
the leading edge they might kink or wrinkle and since I was a one man operation
the 7 foot long piece would have been hard for me to handle. So after marking
the packing tape where I wanted the strips to lay, I started at the back of the
top, wetting out the glass as I went along. I then went under the wing and
continued the process from front to back, keeping the line as straight as
possible. Then back to the top side to repeat these steps 2 more times. This
worked great for me, I was also afraid that the weight of the glass tape wood
be heavy enough to fall off the underside but the layering system seemed to be
letting the epoxy thicken enough to hold the weight. Let dry, micro the top and
bottom, sand to finish and then just pop off by sliding a thin putty knife
underneath. Sand the edges with long sanding block and your all done except for
painting and attaching.
